Meridia engaged in an informal meeting with the Mayor, CFO, Zoning Officer, and a council member. During this meeting, the Mayor expressed his desire for redevelopment in the town, noting he had heard about Meridia’s successes and was eager to learn more about the redevelopment process. A month later, Robert Goldsmith, Esq., met with the same group to provide an overview of redevelopment.
2015
July
Meridia identifies five lots suitable for redevelopment.
August
Four of the properties are put under contract.
December
The council authorizes a study to determine if the area qualifies for redevelopment using eminent domain.
2016
February
All properties are put under contract.
June
Meridia receives final approval for a 213-unit multi-family building, which includes a restaurant.
September
All land contracts are closed.
October
Demolition begins.
2020
January
Meridia is approved to build a second project consisting of 325 units, along with retail space and a restaurant.
March
The first phase of 161 units is completed.
July
The first phase reaches 90% occupancy, while construction begins on the second phase, which includes 52 units.
